The WatchOS 8.5 update, released last week for the Apple Watch, is reportedly breaking fast charging support. The update brings users the ability to purchase and subscribe to Apple TVs directly from the wrist. Users can also use audio hints in Fitness +, along with an audio commentary of the moves that appear during workouts after the update. But recent reports indicate to Apple Watch Series 7 users that WatchOS 8.5 seems to be breaking support for fast charging – a feature that was exclusive to the Apple Watch Series 7.
A report from 9to5Mac highlights that after the watchOS 8.5 update, Apple Watch Series 7 fast charging no longer seems to work for some users. Several influential Apple Watch Series 7 users have taken to Apple’s support forums and Reddit to share how fast charging support has slowed down since the update to WatchOS 8.5.
A user on Reddit said, “Since the update to 8.5, my Series 6 charges about 49 percent overnight. Trying to shut down and restart. No go. I hope an update is coming. Very frustrating. Another user said, “Well I think the charge is about half faster than before the update, maybe the night before that update I got 40 percent in 15 minutes, 20 percent-60 percent and then 90 percent in another 15 minutes. After updating 8.5 I got 40 percent in about 30 minutes 52 percent -92 percent. But perhaps it has slowed down because it is at the higher end of the charge? I guess I should have run it at 20 percent. Although it seems to be charging quite fast. I mean, it’s still acceptable. Did you restart the watch and try again? “
The latest watchOS release from Apple has updated irregular rhythm notifications designed to improve atrial fibrillation detection. The watchOS 8.5 release also includes a list of patches that are detailed on the Security Updates page. WatchOS 8.5 users have got a new tool so that users can recover their Apple Watch wirelessly. Previously, users had to go to a service center to fix the Apple Watch’s firmware in case of an unresolved issue.
As mentioned earlier, the update also adds the ability for users to approve Apple TV purchases and subscriptions directly from the wrist. Users were also able to use the audio hints in Fitness +, along with an audio commentary of the steps that were displayed during the workout after the update.
