SPIC MACAY’s ‘Anubhav 4’ to celebrate the classics of Late Pt Shiv Kumar Sharma

I pay my respects to the late Pandit. Shiv Kumar Sharma, the late Santur Ustad, will host the 4th edition of SPIC MACAY (Society for the Promotion of Indian Classical Music and Culture Amongst Youth) its online convention – ANUBHAV’4. This year it is being conducted in a hybrid format which means participants can join from selected campuses across India and also online. The event is scheduled from May 29 to June 4, 2022, the celebration of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav – 75 years of India’s independence. The event will be inaugurated by Tripura Deputy Chief Minister Shri Jishmu Dev Verma and later Padma Bhushan Award winner Begum Parveen Sultana’s Hindustani Vocal Concert.

SPIC MACAY Anubhav 4.0 will host several eminent artists of the country including Begum Parveen Sultana, Ustad Wasifuddin Dagar, Guru Ghankant Bora, Pandit. Tejendra Narayan Majumdar, Vidyan Umayalpuram K. Shivraman, Vidyan Sikil Gurucharan, Vidushi Kanyakumari, Pandit. Ulhas Kashalkar, Pandit Rajendra Gangani, Pandit Nityananda Haldipur, Bidushi Kapila Venu, Pandit. Venkatesh Kumar, Bidushi Suguna Vardachari, Bidushi Shruti Sadolikar and Bidushi S. Gentleman.

Speaking of Pandit Shivkumar Sharma, he died here on May 10 at the age of 84 after suffering a heart attack. He was one of the most well-known classical musicians in India. Sharma received the Sangeet Natak Academy Award in 1986, the Padma Shri in 1991 and the Padma Bhushan in 2001.

He also toured the world of Indian cinema as part of the famous ‘Shiva-Hari’ composer duo with flutist Pandit Hari Prasad Chaurasia. They composed music for films like “Silsila”, “Lamhe”, “Chandni” and “Dar”.

After his death, after the Guard of Honor at Juhu in Mumbai, where his body was laid to rest in public, Sharma’s funeral was held at the Pawan Hans crematorium in Villa Pearl. Friends of the fraternity including wife Manorama and son Rahul and Rohit, family of the musician, longtime collaborator Chaurasia and tabla player Zakir Hussain were present. Sharma’s funeral was performed by his sons, followed by a gun salute. He was cremated with full state honors in the presence of family and close friends.

This is not the first time that SPIC MACAY has come forward to celebrate classical music and art From the very beginning, the Society has been working to enrich the quality of formal education among adolescents and young people by raising awareness about various aspects of Indian heritage and inspiring young minds to assimilate the values ​​contained therein.

For the latest online convention, in 2021 ANUBHAV 3.0, 15000+ students from all over the world participated not only from India but also from Bhutan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Japan, South Korea, Singapore, Malaysia and UAE.
